LAST TIME OUT
The Green Wave opened the 2015-16 season Friday night and fell in overtime to Alabama A&M, 68-67. Washington transfer Jernard Jarreau led Tulane with 16 points and seven rebounds. Tulane trailed until six minutes into the second half, when it received a huge spark from freshman Kain Harris, who hit three straight 3's to position the Green Wave for their first lead which came just seconds later. Senior Louis Dabney kept his team in the game sinking two late free throws to tie it and Malik Morgan forced overtime with a steal on Alabama A&M's attempt at a final play. Dabney struck first in overtime, but the Bulldogs sealed the game with one second left in overtime.
TULANE IN SEASON OPENERS
The Tulane men's basketball began its 106th season of basketball Friday night, and sixth season under head coach Ed Conroy. The Green Wave are now 74-32 in season openers after falling to Alabama A&M 68-67 in overtime. This marked the first time in program history the Green Wave have gone to overtime to begin the season. Conroy is now 3-3 in his time with the Green Wave in season openers.
1,000 AND COUNTING
Senior Louis Dabney entered his senior season just three points shy of the 1,000 career point mark. He became the 35TH player in Tulane history to surpass that threshold with his second bucket of the game in the season opener against Alabama A&M.
BIG TIME BEGINNING
A number of Tulane players got the 2015-16 season started in a big way. Washington transfer Jernard Jarreau paced the offense with 16 points, also adding seven board. Sophomore Dylan Osetkowski earned the first double-double of his career with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Freshmen Kain Harris added a huge spark off the bench for the Green Wave, hitting three straight 3's to position Tulane for its first lead of the game midway through the second half. LSU transfer Malik Morgan gave the Green Wave a balanced effort in his new role as point guard with his new team. Morgan finished with nine points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
WHAT WE'VE GAINED
The Green Wave have added seven newcomers to the 2015-16 roster. LSU transfer Malik Morgan is now available after sitting out last season due to NCAA tranfers rules and graduate student Jernard Jarreau has also joined the squad after graduating from Washington in the spring. Tulane welcomed five freshmen this fall with the addition of Blake Paul, Kain Harris, Taron Oliver, Von Julien and Melvin Frazier. The versatile class is much larger and more athletic than what Tulane has seen in the past. A trio of newcomers (Frazier, Jarreau, Morgan) rounded out the starting lineup in the season opener, while Von Julien and Kain Harris came off the bench to make their Green Wave debuts. The newcomers were responsible for nearly 60-percent of Tulane's scoring in the opener as well as nearly half the rebounds and all but one assist.
