Baseball Adds Mitchell Hagan to Signing Class
Nov 17, 2015 | Baseball
NEW ORLEANS -- Tulane baseball added another piece to the puzzle on Tuesday morning, as Mitchell Hagan (1B/OF/LHP -- Westside High School, Omaha, Nebraska) signed an NLI, announced head coach David Pierce.
Hagan becomes the 12th player to sign with the Green Wave, as 11 were announced last Thursday.
"Our coaches work hard to build relationships throughout the country," stated Pierce. "Mitchell is a kid that came to our camp because of a relationship, and I'm glad he did. He is a great athlete from a family of athletes and can do a multitude of things on the field. He is the ultimate two-way player that can play infield and outfield while hitting from both sides of the plate. I'm excited he is coming to Tulane to play baseball."
The switch-hitting Hagan (6-3, 205, S/L) is considered the top first base prospect out of Nebraska, while ranking as the fifth-best prospect in the state and the 39th-best first baseman in the nation according to Perfect Game. Hagan played an integral role for head coach Bob Greco in leading the Warriors to a 33-6 record and the NSAA State Baseball Championship title in 2015.
"Mitchell is a big-bodied, physical young man from Nebraska," added associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Sean Allen. "He's a quarterback for his football team. He's a switch-hitting first baseman with power from both sides. We saw him pitch, and he is throwing in the upper-80s while touching 91. He definitely has a chance to be a two-way player for us in the future."
Last Thursday, the Green Wave announced the signings of Brandon Fraley (RHP/OF -- Carvel Academy, Middleton, Delaware), Paul Gozzo (C- Mark T. Sheehan High School, Wallingford, Connecticut), Sal Gozzo (SS -- Mark T. Sheehan High School, Wallingford, Connecticut), Kody Hoese (SS -- Griffith Senior High School, Griffith, Indiana), Zach Zubia (RHP/1B -- Strake Jesuit College Prep, Richmond, Texas), Jack Hogan (RHP -- The Hill High School, Pottstown, Pennsylvania), Michael Kirsch (SS -- Brother Martin High School, Metairie, Louisiana), Keagan Gillies (RHP - Brother Martin High School, New Orleans, La.), Jacob Cantleberry (LHP -- Center Grove High School, Greenwood, Ind.), Chase Solesky (RHP -- John Carroll Catholic, Fort Pierce, Florida) and Kobi Owen (OF -- Episcopal High School, Bellaire, Texas) for the 2017 campaign.
