NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tulane men's basketball team made it back-to-back victories to cap off the Challenge in Music City, topping the Liberty Flames, 72-51, at the Municipal Auditorium Sunday afternoon. Graduate student Jernard Jarreau led the Green Wave with 15 points in the game, while Liberty was led by Evan Maxwell and Ezra Talbert, who each scored 12 in the game.
It was another slow start for the Green Wave (4-3), who went down seven early. Liberty (3-4) seemed to have an answer every time Tulane got close, but after four ties the Green Wave finally took their first lead on a tip-in by redshirt junior Malik Morgan in transition.
Tulane closed out the first half on a 9-3 run to take a 10-point lead into the halftime break at 37-27. Freshman Kain Harris had a big first half, hitting three of his four attempts from beyond the arc to put him at 10 points at the break.
The Green Wave continued to roll in the second half, never letting Liberty get closer than 11 and leading by as many as 26 points in the period. Freshman Melvin Frazier came out hot in the second half, scoring seven of the team's first eight points to extend the lead early on.
Liberty committed 19 turnovers in the game and Tulane capitalized on the mistakes, as 29 of its 79 points came off turnovers by the Flames.
Harris finished the game with 13 points and Frazier added 11 for the Green Wave. Sophomore Dylan Osetkowski neared another double-double with nine points and nine boards, while Morgan dished out seven assists.
Tulane returns home to host the University of New Orleans on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.
