HOUSTON, Texas - The Tulane bowling team, playing in its second tournament weekend in a row, put up seven wins and finished in 11th place at the Stormin' Lady Jack Classic hosted by Stephen F. Austin at the Palace Lanes.
Tulane (51-43) started the tournament very strong, posting three Baker format wins in a row and going 4-2 on Friday. Saturday was a tougher stretch for the Green Wave team, as they picked up one win in traditional play against Prairie View to finish 1-4 on the day.
Tulane's last game of Saturday against Monmouth was a tough two-pin loss for the Green Wave, but they rebounded well on Sunday, as they took down Monmouth in Baker best-of-seven format, 4-1. Tulane then lost a tough matchup to St. Francis Brooklyn, which took the full seven games, before finishing the tournament with a seven game victory over Louisiana Tech.
The Green Wave finished Sunday with a 2-1 record, giving them an overall record of 7-7.
Individually, the top bowler for the Green Wave was sophomore Kierstyn Rush, who had a 205 average over three games on Saturday. Senior Jessica Stricklin also broke the 200 average mark, rolling 200.25 in four games.
"This weekend was almost a complete opposite of last weekend's performance," Tulane head coach Hayley Veitch said. "Last week we started off very slow and this weekend we jumped out and had a good day on Friday, but we were not able to keep that momentum going. The ladies know what they have to work on over the next few weeks to get ready for the next tournament."
Tulane now has three weeks off before heading to Smyrna, Tennessee, where they will take part in the Columbia 300 Music City Classic on March 6-8.
