TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The runners of Tulane cross country closed out the 2016 regular season on Saturday afternoon at the ISU Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana. On the day, the Green Wave men finished in 15th place, while the women landed a 42nd place finish.
At the meet, sophomore Emmanuel Rotich posted his second top finish of the year on a time of 24:36.5, crossing the finish line ten seconds ahead of the second-place runner from Drake. With the win, Rotich also notched his fifth consecutive top-two finish of 2016. Junior Moses Aloiloi also led the men's team, claiming a no. 12 spot on his time of 25:12.6.
"Emmanuel ran a very good race today," director of track and field and cross country Eric Peterson said. "He is fit and strong and was in complete control of himself the entire time. I was also impressed with the effort Moses Aloiloi gave in the race."
Junior Lauren Bartels paced the Tulane women, finishing the 6K in 128th place on her time of 21:42.0. Right behind her was junior Emma Newton in 144th, finishing in 21:48.1. In the race, senior Jessica Adamson notched a career-best time, running the 6K in 23:31.0.
"The women obviously had a rough meet today," Peterson said. "Lauren Bartels did a fine job of leading the team, and Jessica Adamson got slightly better in the 6K. We will put the race behind us, learn from it and improve moving forward."
The Green Wave have next weekend off before traveling to West Chester, Ohio for the American Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29 hosted by the University of Cincinnati.
