PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A record-breaking weekend at the Stanford Invitational has won sophomore Emmanuel Rotich his third American Conference Male Runner of the Week honor, the league announced Tuesday morning.
"Emmanuel ran his best race of the season so far last Saturday at the Stanford Invitational," director of track and field and cross country Eric Peterson said. "He did a great job of staying relaxed and under control while running with the lead pack for the first 6K and nearly pulled off the victory. I'm pleased to see the conference recognize his hard work and high level of achievement."
Rotich placed second overall in Saturday's meet at the Stanford Golf Course, just two seconds behind an unattached competitor from Stanford. He broke a fifteen year-old school record in the 8K on his time of 23:19.90, shattering his previous personal best set last October. In addition, Rotich notched his fourth consecutive top-two finish at the meet.
Rotich also led his team to an eighth-place finish in the race, beating out no. 11 national seed and host team Stanford in the process.
This week's honor marks the third time this year Rotich has been named Runner of the Week. Rotich opened up the 2016 season with a second-place showing at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic, followed by a first-place effort at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival in Metairie. Rotich then landed a second-place finish at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge.
Tulane will take this weekend off before wrapping up the regular season at the ISU Pre-National Invitational in Indiana on Oct. 15.
