Bowling Ranks 18th in NTCA Preseason Poll
Oct 6, 2016 | Women's Bowling
New Orleans – The National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) has released its 2016-17 pre-season poll, detailing the top-25 bowling teams in the nation. Tulane takes the 18th spot on the poll, moving up two places from last year's end-of-season rankings.
This marks the highest ranking Tulane Bowling has received in program history.
"This is a great start to the season with the highest ranking in the history of Tulane bowling. I definitely think we can maintain at least an 18th ranking throughout the season with the goal to get even higher," said head coach Hayley Veitch.
Tulane's 18th place ranking reflects the programs growing strength. This off-season, Veitch added three promising freshman to the roster. Joanna Hackett comes to Tulane from London, England where she has earned a medal at every Junior Nationals event since the age of six. Isabelle Lee is the second Tulane bowler to come out of Singapore where she has competed on both the national and international level. Claire Turner comes from Sheridan, Wyoming where she competed in three AAU tournaments, earning a medal at each one. Hackett, Lee, and Turner will all look to make an impact early on in the season. Â
Tulane will face tough competition as they try to move up in the polls, with seven out of the eight teams in the Southland Bowling Conference ranking in the top-25. Reigning NCAA Champions, Stephen F. Austin, came in second on the coaches poll, followed by Arkansas State (third), Vanderbilt (fourth), and Sam Houston State (sixth). Monmouth received a 16th place ranking, while Valparaiso came in at 21st.
