Bowling Crowned Champions at the JSU Sonic Boom Invitational

BRANDON, Miss. – Tulane bowling was crowned tournament champions after posting an 11-0 record at the JSU Sonic Boom Invitational.
"We came here to win and we did exactly that! The team came together well and we fought through some tough matches that could have easily gone the other way. It is an amazing achievement for our team to go 11-0," said head coach Hayley Veitch. "We maintained our competitiveness throughout the tournament. I am extremely proud of the ladies and their accomplishments!"
Tulane started the tournament by going 5-0 in bracket play, recording wins over Alabama State, UAB, Louisiana Tech, Southern and Grambling State. At the end of day one, the Green Wave had knocked down 4,577 total pins while averaging 183.1 pins per game.
Tulane continued ita winning ways on Saturday, going 4-0 in traditional play. The Olive and Blue recorded wins against No. 24 Jackson State, Alabama State, UAB and Louisiana Tech. The squad knocked down another 4,665 pins on Saturday, raising their total to 9,242 and their average to 184.8.
Sunday saw the teams compete in bracket play. The No.1 seeded Green Wave faced off against No. 2 seed UAB. Tulane won the match in five games, earning a bye until the final round of competition, where the Green Wave once again faced off against the Blazers. Both squads fought hard, pushing the 'first-to-four' competition into a seventh game. Tulane came out on top, earning the program's first win of the season.
At the end of competition Tulane had knocked down 11,393 total pins, averaging 186.8 pins per game.
Junior Michelle Ng led all bowlers with a 1,127 pin total and 225.4 pin average, earning all-tournament honors. Ng knocked down a season high 234 pins against Jackson State. Junior Sarah Forton also recorded a new season high, bowling for 201 pins against Alabama Birmingham. Sophomore Hailee Hammond posted a new career high for the second time this year, knocking down 180 pins in the wave's win over Louisiana Tech.
Tulane returns to action on Nov. 18 at the Hawk Classic hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
