NEW ORLEANS - Points were aplenty for Tulane men's basketball in the 93-76 victory over Southeastern Louisiana with five players scoring in double figures, highlighted by career nights by senior center Ryan Smith and sophomore guard Kain Harris.
"It's great and really exciting (to get this win)," said head coach Mike Dunleavy, Sr. "I'm really excited about the possibilities of where this program can go. I knew it when I took it over and I feel even more so right now because I have seen the improvement in a lot of the kids."
The Green Wave (1-1) went over 90-point mark in regulation for the first time since a 100-61 win over Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 20, 2014, thanks in large part to the performances from Smith and Harris. Smith posted his first career double-double with a career-high 14 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Harris set his career high in points for the second game in a row with 19 points off the bench.
Before Tulane took control the game in the second half, the Green Wave were in a tussle with the Lions (1-1) over the first 20 minutes. There were 16 lead changes in the first half alone as either team led by more than five points. Redshirt junior forward Cameron Reynolds gave the Wave that five-point advantage in the final second of the half on his three-pointer with 15 seconds remaining. Southeastern tacked on two free throws to make the score 42-39 at the break. Harris scored 11 of his 19 points in the first half.
The see-saw battle continued in the second half, though Tulane would never relinguish the lead. The margin stayed within a couple of possessions until a Harris layup at the 6:40 mark stretched the lead to nine (74-65). A couple of minutes later, freshman guard Ray Ona Embo converted on a traditional, three-point play to move the lead to double digits for the first time (79-69). The Green Wave really started rolling from there, expandind the lead to 17 (88-71) with just under two minutes to play following a couple of made free throws by redshirt senior guard Malik Morgan.
Ona Embo scored the team's final five points at the line to secure the first win in the Dunleavy era. Smith only played seven minutes in the second half and made every second count, scoring 10 points and pulling down four rebounds.
"I thought Ryan Smith had a great second half for us," said head coach Mike Dunleavy, Sr. "He really controlled the paint, got some scores got to the line and I thought he was our anchor there."
Next up, Tulane goes on the road Nov. 17-20 to play in the 2016 Tire Pros Invitational in Orlando, Fla. The Green Wave open tournament play on Thursday night at 6 p.m. on ESPNU against Oklahoma. The Sooners received votes in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Top 25 polls this week. Tulane is also scheduled to play on Friday and Sunday at HP Field House in the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
The Olive and Blue are at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse next on Friday, Dec. 2 vs. St, John's. Tipoff for that game is set for at 7 p.m. on ESPNews.

• The Green Wave had five players score in double figures for the first time since March 9, 2013 vs. Houston.
• Senior C Ryan Smith's 14 points topped his previous high of 10 points vs. Tennessee Tech on Nov. 30, 2014. His 10 rebounds topped his previous high of eight accomplished twice previously (at UCF on Jan. 14, 2015 and vs. North Carolina on Nov. 11, 2016).
• Smith's double-double is just the third double-double achieved by the players on this year's roster. Morgan and Reynolds each have one double-double to their credit.
• Sophomore G Kain Harris reset his career high with 19 points after posting 15 points vs. North Carolina on Nov. 11, 2016.Â
