NEW ORLEANS – In search of its first December victory, Tulane hosts Southern on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse. Opening tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3/WatchESPN.
Â
Tulane Notes:
• The Green Wave will play four of its next five games on its home court.
• Tulane (1-7) leads the American Athletic Conference in three-pointers made per game (8.5) and is shooting at the second-highest clip (.382) in the league. The Green Wave's 68 conversions from beyond the arc is tied with Temple for tops in the American through eight games.
• Redshirt junior Cameron Reynolds ranks fourth in the conference in threes made (22) and fifth in threes per game (2.8).
Â
Last Time Out:
• Ryan Smith scored a career-high 17 points, but St. John's used 16 three-point field goals in cruising to a 95-75 victory over the Green Wave. Smith shot 7-for-9 overall, while Malik Morgan chipped in 15 points and six assists. Melvin Frazier added 13 points, six rebounds and three steals for Tulane, which lost its sixth game in a row. Snapping a five-game skid of its own, St. John's first 10 field goals came from beyond the arc, as it placed four scorers in double-figures, led by Marcus Lovett's game-high 18 points. At one point in the first half, the Red Storm made 10-consecutive three-pointers and 11 of its first 12 attempts from deep.
Â
The Opponent:
• Southern (3-3) enters Wednesday's matchup coming off an 83-71 road win at Florida A&M last Saturday - its first road win of the season in four tries. Senior forward Shawn Prudhomme is averaging 22.7 points per game, while shooting 55 percent from the field and 56 percent from three-point range.
• The Jaguars have reached the NCAA Tournament twice in the last four years as SWAC champions under sixth-year head coach Roman Banks.
Â
The Series:
• Wednesday's matchup marks the 10th overall meeting between Tulane and Southern, as the Green Wave leads the all-time series, 8-1, and is 6-0 on its home court when the two programs clash. Last season, the Jaguars earned their first victory in the series' history by turning 15 Tulane turnovers into 36 points for a 90-82 win in Baton Rouge. Malik Morgan led the Green Wave with 18 points while Dylan Osetkowski compiled a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, as Southern saw five players score in double figures with Adrian Rodgers pacing the Jaguars with 20 points.
