Women's Hoops Punches Ticket to Sweet 16

ATLANTA - For the second straight game in the WNIT, the Tulane women's basketball team (23-11) utilized a last-second defensive stand to secure a 64-61 win at Georgia Tech (20-13), tying the program's best WNIT run by advancing to the Sweet 16. Up next, the Green Wave will travel to Florida Gulf Coast for a Wednesday night showdown at 7 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT.
"So proud of how tough our team played," Tulane head coach Lisa Stockton stated. "We had different players step up throughout the game. Such a great team win."
Down 18-8 at the end of the first quarter, the Wave shot 61.1 percent in the second period, including a 4-of-6 mark from three, to tie the game at 36-all at half. Flash forward to 15 seconds left in the game and Tulane was holding on to a 63-61 lead with the ball. Leslie Vorpahl was immediately fouled and connected on 1-of-2 from the free-throw line to push the lead to three. Next, the Wave defense came up big yet again, as Kolby Morgan secured the steal and ran out the clock for the Sweet 16 berth.
Morgan recorded her 13th 20+ scoring effort on the year with 22 points tonight on 9-of-20 shooting. Vorpahl followed suit with 16 points on a 5-for-8 night, including four treys and six assists, while Chinwe Duru was huge on the boards, reeling in a career high 12 rebounds to go with her nine points.
