Baseball's Alex Massey Selected in 36th Round of MLB Draft by Kansas City Royals

NEW ORLEANS -Â Tulane baseball's Alex Massey has been selected in the 36th round (1,093rd overall) of the MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Kansas City Royals on Saturday.
Massey is the 101st Tulane player to be selected in the MLB-First Year Player Draft.
The Baton Rouge, Louisiana, native was a mainstay in the pitching rotation since arriving on campus as a freshman in 2012 from. The right-handed pitcher went 18-13 with a 4.16 ERA in 58 games with 41 starts, totaling 253.1 innings and 226 strikeouts while pitching in six shutout contests over his career. Massey finishes his career ranked first in school history in most strikeouts looking (91), tied for fifth in most combined shutouts (6), tied for ninth in most ground outs (255), 10th in most fly outs (226), tied for 11th for most games started (41), 12th for most batters faced (1,096), 14th in lowest opponent batting average (.259), 19th in most innings pitched (253.1), 19th in most strikeouts (226), 24th in most strikeouts per nine innings (8.03), tied for 26th in most appearances (58) and tied for 28th in most wins (18).
Massey was a three-time American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll honoree, and picked up American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors on April 20.
Massey is just the fourth player in Tulane history drafted by the Kansas City Royals, joining Jim Gaudet (1967), Frank Wills (1980) and John Zelenka (1983). Massey is also the fifth player drafted this year from Tulane as Jake Rogers (Houston Astros), Stephen Alemais (Pittsburgh Pirates), Trevor Simms (Arizona Diamondbacks) and Emerson Gibbs (Milwaukee Brewers) have all been chosen this weekend.
