Bowling Sends Four to The Junior Gold Championships
Jul 18, 2016 | Women's Bowling
Sarah Forton, Angela Falgoust, Tiera Gulum and Claire Turner will compete in Indianapolis
ÂNEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's bowling team will be well represented at this year's Junior Gold Championships, as Sarah Forton, Angela Falgoust, Tiera Gulum and Claire Turner will head to Indianapolis to compete for a spot on Junior Team USA. The Championships will run from July 16-23 as bowlers from around the country fight for their turn in the national spotlight.
Â
"Junior Golds is such a great experience for any youth bowler, because it is a challenging tournament that requires a lot of physical talent and a solid mental game," said Tulane bowling head coach Hayley Veitch. "It is exciting for four Tulane bowlers to qualify for Junior Golds. They have all prepared well and competed at this tournament before, so as long as they take each day as it comes, I have no doubt they will perform nicely."
Â
Falgoust, coming off her junior campaign with the Wave, heads to Junior Golds for the third straight season, holding a 55th place finish as her best performance. Forton, who posted the second-highest pin average among the Olive and Blue in her sophomore season (186.58), has earned her fourth consecutive appearance at the national tournament, placing a personal-best 101st last year.
Â
Tiera Gulum, after beginning her career in New Orleans this past fall, makes her third straight trip, while newcomer Claire Turner looks to qualify for a national spot in her fourth go-round at the Championships. Turner missed the cut last year by a mere 11 pins, while Gulum placed a career-best 220th two summers ago.
Â
The ladies will compete in the U20 Girls division, a group that will take the lanes at All Star Bowl in Indianapolis, Southern Bowl in Greenwood and Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis.
