LSU Cross Country Invitational

Cross Country Deploying All Forces for LSU Invitational
Sep 16, 2016 | Cross Country
NEW ORLEANS – Following a dominating performance at Loyola's Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival last weekend, the men and women of Tulane cross country will make a trip upriver to compete at the LSU Cross Country Invitational. The race will be run at Highland Road Park in Baton Rouge.
Both Tulane squads will compete in the collegiate 5K, with women running at 7:30 a.m. followed by the men at 8:10 a.m. Saturday's meet marks the first time this season that Tulane will send all of its top runners to the starting line. It will serve as freshman Devyn Keith's first college competition, while freshman Evelyn Bentch will also make her Tulane debut.
Juniors Lauren Bartels and Emma Newton are pegged to lead the Green Wave women this weekend. Bartels set a career best in the 5K in her last outing at the season-opening Brooks Memphis Twilight, while Newton, running her first race of 2016, led Tulane at last season's NCAA South-Central Regional before being named to the LSWA All-Louisiana Team for the second consecutive year.
On the men's side, Tulane will look to sophomore Emmanuel Rotich and junior Moses Aloiloi to set the pace. Rotich is coming off back-to-back American Conference Runner of the Week honors after placing first and second at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival and the Brooks Memphis Twilight, respectively. Aloiloi finished just behind Rotich last weekend while posting a fifth-place finish in Memphis.
At this year's LSU Invite, Tulane will be facing off against eight in-state opponents, including LSU, Southeastern and ULL. A handful of out-of-state teams will also make the trip, such as Southern Miss and Millsaps. The Green Wave last competed in Baton Rouge in 2010, when the women finished third overall. The men came in seventh.
