Track Kat Klash Final Results
HOUSTON – No. 17 Tulane bowling finished 10th in a stacked field at the Sam Houston State Track Kat Klash this weekend at Emerald Lanes. The Green Wave posted a 7-5 record, 11,878 pin total, and 185.6 pin average in the tournament.
Tulane was one of 14 ranked schools in the 21-team tournament field, which included eight of the top-10 teams in the country. The Green Wave picked up an historic victory over Nebraska on Friday – the program's first-ever win over the Cornhuskers, currently ranked No. 2 in the nation. The win was part of an opening day in which the Wave picked up a pair of victories and collected more than 1,000 pins three times on their way to 4,819 pins on Friday.
The Green Wave went 4-1 in traditional play on Saturday, winning matches over No. 4 Vanderbilt (931-884), No. 5 Sam Houston State (965-954), No. 10 Central Missouri (859-851) and Maryville (906-808), while falling only to No. 24 Youngstown State (903-888). Senior Michelle Ng led the Wave with 999 total pins on Saturday, averaging 199.80 pins to place 17th in the individual standings.
"We made history for the second straight tournament, beating Nebraska for the first time ever, and we had some good wins against ranked teams," Tulane head coach Hayley Veitch said. "Overall, it was a satisfactory performance, but we have more to give, and our overall finish position does not match our potential. We will go back to practice to work on fundamentals for our next tournament."
Sunday, Tulane won its opening match of bracket play over Central Missouri, 4-2 (139-205, 184-166, 189-157, 181-183, 188-158, 174-152), and dropped matches to Vanderbilt, 4-0 (157-208, 182-211, 195-216, 169-187), and Louisiana Tech, 4-0 (178-181, 183-196, 214-223, 177-186).
The Green Wave return to action Nov. 17-19 at the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk Classic in Milsboro, Del.
