RALEIGH, N.C. – Competing in their respective events for the first time this season, the underclassman duo of Raymond Kibet and Emmanuel Rotich put on a performance for the record books on Friday at the Raleigh Relays. Both posted the second-best times in school history in their races, finishing in the top of their respective heats at the Dail Soccer Field/Track Complex in Raleigh, North Carolina.
QUOTE
"I'm very pleased with the way that both Raymond and Emmanuel have started the season. They both did good things in the two preseason meets we had, but today is more significant because they were running in their primary events. I'm very pleased with the way things went here because they both competed well and we got a lot out of this meet. It's early in the season, and they're both healthy, fit and off to a good start. We're looking forward with a lot of optimism."

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE RALEIGH RELAYS
Kibet started off the morning with his first collegiate appearance in the 400m dash, running a quick time of 46.36. The second-fastest time on Tulane's all-time list was a personal best for the freshman, who finished second overall in the race on a time just one tenth of a second away from a school record.
Rotich, competing in his first 5,000m run of the outdoor season, moved up two spots in the record book to the second-best time in school history in the event, up from fourth on a time he set at last year's American Athletic Conference Championships. He also posted a career best of nearly twenty seconds, finishing the race in 14:05.88. Taking first place in his heat, Rotich ended up finishing 13th overall in a highly competitive field of distance runners.
Both Kibet and Rotich posted competitive marks in their respective events, times that should rank highly on the Regional qualifying list at the end of the weekend.
UP NEXT
Kibet will fly to Houston on Saturday to compete in the Victor Lopez Classic with the rest of the outdoor squad, running the men's 200m dash. The Green Wave take next weekend off before returning to Texas for the Houston Alumni Invitational on April 8.
