Throwers Kick off Day One of Longhorn Invitational for Outdoor Track & Field

AUSTIN, Texas – Tulane outdoor track & field opened up its second-to-last meet of the 2017 regular season on Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas, with four throwers leading the charge in day one of the Longhorn Invitational. On the afternoon, the Green Wave continued to see consistency in the women's javelin and women's hammer throw, as well as a season best in the men's javelin.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM DAY ONE OF THE LONGHORN INVITATIONAL
Redshirt senior Daliadiz Ortiz was the first to turn in results on the afternoon, starting Tulane off in the women's javelin. Ortiz, who has dominated the event all season long, posted her sixth consecutive podium finish, coming in third place on a mark of 47.81m.
Coming off of a school record-breaking performance two weeks ago at the Mt. SAC Relays, junior Jacqueline Esmay notched her second-farthest throw of the season and of her career in the women's hammer, coming in with a mark of 56.26m that was good for ninth place in the event in a field of strong throwers.
Sophomore Bradley Reber closed out Friday competition with his farthest throw of the year, posting a mark of 45.99m in the men's javelin to finish just behind teammate Ethan Rodriguez in the event.
UP NEXT
The remainder of the Tulane squad will take the stage tomorrow, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with three Green Wave competitors in the B section of the women's pole vault.
