NEW ORLEANS – An off weekend separated Tulane's track & field squad from its last trip to the Lone Star State, and on Saturday, April 8, Tulane will once again head to Texas for the Houston Alumni Invitational, a one-day affair hosted by the University of Houston on the Tom Tellez Track at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
ABOUT THE HOUSTON ALUMNI INVITATIONAL
Tulane's return trip to Houston will be its second of three trips this year, with the third and final Houston meet being the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships May 12-14.
The Green Wave open up the day in the field with the women's hammer throw and the men's javelin, followed by the men's pole vault at 1:30 p.m., where Caleb Bertrand will look to post a season high for the fourth consecutive meet.
Also in the field, Tulane will compete six women in the pole vault, with Alyssa Applebee leading the way in the hunt for her third event title of the outdoor season.
Track events open up later in the afternoon with the men's and women's 1,500m runs. Tulane will once again send Jessica Duckett and Brandi Hughes to the start line of the women's 100m hurdles after both hurdlers posted sub-14 second times in their last outing, with Duckett tying her school record in the event.
Following the first hurdle event of the day, freshman Raymond Kibet will run the second 400m dash of his collegiate career. In his last outing at the Raleigh Relays, Kibet posted the second-fastest time in school history in the event and broke a freshman record.
The 3,000m steeplechase for both the men and women will round out the individual events, with sophomore Emmanuel Rotich, the current school record holder, making his season debut in the race.
Tulane will close out the Houston Alumni Invitational fielding its first 4x400m relay teams of the season, with Maya Harewood, Jessica Duckett, Brandi Hughes and Jessica Adamson running for Tulane A and Sarah Cella, Paige Fatland, Dominique Hever and Kyra Ness-Lanckriet making up Tulane B.
UP NEXT
Tulane will head to Torrance, California for a three-day meet at the Mt. Sac Invitational hosted by El Camino College.
