Friday, Aug. 11

9:30 a.m. (CEST) - The entire travel party loads up the bus to head across town for a morning shootaround at a local recreation and multi-purpose gym. The trip included a brief time on the highway and a bulk of travel through some high-speed, underground tunnels.

11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. (CEST) - The Green Wave takes a private, guided tour through Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, the home of the world renown Real Madrid soccer team. Built in 1954, the stadium has undergone three different renovations and now holds a capacity of 85,000 spectators. Players, coaches and staff were guided through the upper-deck concourse levels, down through a high-tech museum that included an impressive number of trophy cases and memorabilia such as soccer balls, cleats and jerseys covering more than one century of Real Madrid soccer history. Interactive displays and highlight screens were abundant on the walls throughout before leading to an entrance to the field level and benches of the field. A final path through the locker rooms and to the gift shop concluded the tour and the team returned to the hotel.

3:10 p.m. (CEST) - Student-athletes, coaches and staff meet for a pregame meal at a local restaurant approximately a 10-minute walk from the hotel through the streets of Madrid.
5:45 p.m. (CEST) - The team loads up the bus and departs for the arena to take on Alcobendas in its first exhibition game. Alcobendas is a club team located on the outskirts of Madrid and is a well-established club team in the area.
7:20 p.m. (CEST) - Tulane tips off with Alcobendas. The Green Wave gets off to a hot start, making five of the first seven attempts from beyond the arc - including a pair of treys by Jordan Cornish - to take a 22-18 lead into the second quarter. Both sides exchanged blows in the second 10-minute period, as Samir Sehic got his offense going with five points in the quarter, helping Tulane take a 39-34 advantage into the halftime intermission.
The Wave held Alcobendas to just 2-for-13 shooting beyond the 3-point line in the first half, but the home team began using effective ball movement around the perimeter to make eight triples in the second half. Tulane was able to grow its lead to 10 points on two occasions in the third quarter at 46-36 and again at 50-40, but Alcobendas came to life with the 3-ball and broke out on a 13-1 run to take a 53-51 advantage with 1:22 left in the third. The Green Wave closed the frame strong, as Cameron Reynolds scored the final five points in the quarter to put his team up, 56-53, heading into the final 10 minutes.
Tulane and Alcobendas were locked in a battle for the duration the fourth quarter, but a Reynolds' 3-pointer with 6:44 left put the Green Wave ahead by six, 63-57. Alcobendas would roar back over the next five minutes of action to take a two-point lead, but Ray Ona Embo used his international pedigree at crunch time, sinking a layup to tie the game at 69 with 2:45 to go. A Cornish jumper put Tulane up a pair and an Ona Embo free throw with six seconds remaining sealed the 72-71 victory.

Ona Embo led four Green Wave players in double-figures with 18 points, while Reynolds posted a double-double comprising 16 points and 10 rebounds to go with three assists. Samir Sehic tallied 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals as Jordan Cornish poured in 12 points and made a trio of three-pointers.

9:45 p.m. (CEST) - The Tulane bus returns to the hotel, showers and heads to a team dinner at a local restaurant before heading back to the hotel to rest for tomorrow's agenda that includes more tours and free time around Madrid!
