Aug 30, 2017 | Cross Country
NEW ORLEANS -- Tulane cross country is set to start its 2017 season on Friday, Sept. 1 in Philadelphia, Pa. at the Temple University Cross Country Invitational. The women start the meet, held at Belmont Plateau, at 5:15 p.m. (ET), while the men begin at 5:45 p.m. (ET).
Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Eric Peterson's men's squad comes off a very successful 2016 campaign, in which it earned a second-place finish in the AAC, the program's highest conference ranking since the 1990's and its best since joining the league in 2014. Junior Emmanuel Rotich, who was named Male Runner of the Year by the Louisiana Sports Writer's Association, returns to the program after recording seven-consecutive top-three finishes, school records in the 8K and 10K, a gold-medal effort at the South Central Regional, and earning a trip to the NCAA Cross Country National Championships in 2016.
Peterson's women's team raced to a ninth-place finish at the NCAA South Central Regional last season, its highest finish at a regional meet since the 1990's. Seniors Emma Newton and Lauren Bartels return and will look to help the squad continue achieving top marks.
