NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball continues its conference schedule this weekend, hosting Temple, 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 29, before welcoming UConn, 12 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 1, to Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave enter the weekend tied for fourth in the conference standings with a record of 12-3 overall, 1-1 The American.
"Temple is a very experienced team with lots of seniors, so we're going to get all we handle from them," assistant volleyball coach Brian Yale said. "They're one of the top blocking teams in the conference, so our hitters are going to have to find ways to score and get past the blocks. If we get tentative, we're going to be in trouble. It'll be a good test for us to see where we're at going into the rest of this conference season. We've got to take what we learn from Friday night and roll it into Sunday against UConn."
Last weekend, Tulane opened the American Athletic Conference season, falling, 3-1, against SMU in Dallas, Texas, before earning its conference win of the season against Tulsa (3-1) in Tulsa, Okla. Freshman outside hitter Lexie Douglas recorded a double-double in the win against Tulsa, posting a match-high 13 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore middle hitter Erika Hansel came off the bench to provide four kills (attack percentage of .600). Sophomore libero Kaylie McHugh recorded 27 digs, and senior setter Justine Bowers notched a match-high 20 assists and 11 digs to record a double-double.
The Green Wave return to Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse for the first time since winning the Tulane Invitational, Sept. 15-16. Tulane defeated Northwestern State, Alabama State and North Florida en route to claiming the championship title, and extending their home winning streak to eight games (8-0).
"We're trying to develop homecourt advantage," Yale said. "The more we win, the more fans show up and the more playing in Fogelman in Devlin becomes an advantage for us. We've got to take care of business at home and use that facility to its full potential."
A live stream including play-by-play and analysis of Tulane's three matches will be available at TulaneGreenWave.com.
Tulane Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is hosting a Mental Health Night tailgate prior to the Green Wave's match against Temple, Friday night, at Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse, in support of mental health awareness.
