Green Wave Swimming and Diving Heads West to Take Part in Dual-A-Pool-Ooza
Oct 18, 2018 | Women's Swimming and Diving
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's swimming and diving program returns to the water on Friday and Saturday as it heads to Dual-A-Pool-Ooza in Denver, Colorado. Tulane's trip out West will mark its second meet of the season.
Â
The 31-event meet features three sessions over two days where Tulane will take on Rice, defending Conference USA champion Florida International and defending Summit League winner the University of Denver, which also will play host to the event.
Â
The Green Wave opened the year on a high note two weeks ago at home as they fell just three points shy (151.5-148.5) of defeating 2018 American Athletic Conference Champion Houston. Tulane individuals had several strong showings and enter this weekend's meet with a high level of confidence, despite the loss.
Â
"I think that our first performance of the year built a lot of confidence for our team," head coach Leah Stancil said. "We just need to continue on the path of racing tough and being a competitor in the hopes that it will build even more confidence for our team."
Â
Juniors Olivia Johnson and Jordan Morling and sophomore Kate McDonald led the way for the Green Wave two weeks ago at home against Houston, as all three captured a pair of individual victories.
Â
Johnson won the 1,000 yard freestyle (10:08.85) and the 400 yard IM (4:19.04). McDonald's winning times came in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:03.38) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:16.48). Morling captured first in the 200 yard backstroke and the 200 yard butterfly.
First-year head coach Leah Stancil hopes this weekend's meet will prepare the team for The American and NCAA Championships.
Â
"I think a meet like this will really help us for our conference championship and three-day competitions," Stancil said. "I think this meet will be a good test for toughness and will help them prepare for the end of the year. At the end of the year, you have to be able to get up and compete back-to-back-to-back every time, so it is a good rehearsal to help them prepare for the end of the year."
