Tulane Swimming and Diving Splits Tri-Meet Matchup with LSU and Loyola
Oct 26, 2018 | Women's Swimming and Diving
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University swimming and diving team picked up its first win of the year as it defeated Loyola New Orleans 250-40 to pick up its first win of the year Friday night at the Reily Student Recreation Center Natatorium.
Â
In their matchup with LSU, the Green Wave, fell 187-108.
Â
"I think we need to work a lot on our finishes and some technical things in our starts," head coach Leah Stancil said. "In general, they raced pretty tough. They're working really hard and it's been paying off. I think we just need to teach more of the little things, but I'm very blessed to have them as my team and we're moving in the right direction."Â
Â
Junior Olivia Johnson continued her strong start to the 2018-19 season as she captured a pair of races, winning the 500 (4:56.02) and 1,000 yard (10:04.30) freestyle events.
Â
Johnson's winning times in the 500 and 1,000 yard freestyle were both season best times. Her time in the 1,000 yard freestyle was nearly 30 seconds faster from her time she posted last week at Dual-A-Pool-Ooza at Denver.
Â
The Green Wave also had winning performances from senior Michelle Zelnick in the 200 yard freestyle (1:51.18) and sophomore Kate McDonald in the 200 yard IM (2:04.33).
Â
Tulane closed out the meet on a high note, as it won the 4x100 yard freestyle relay (3:29.09). Seniors Paris Zhang, Lilly Morgan, Zelnick and sophomore Courtney Barker led the Green Wave to the win. Â
Â
Tulane returns to action on Nov. 3 as it heads to Statesboro, Georgia, to take on Georgia Southern.
