Tulane Swimming and Diving Visits Georgia Southern on Saturday
Nov 2, 2018 | Women's Swimming and Diving
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University swimming and diving team returns to action for the third consecutive week as it heads to Statesboro, Georgia to take on Georgia Southern. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday inside the Georgia Southern Aquatics Center.
Â
The Green Wave enters their matchup with Georgia Southern following their tri-meet matchup with LSU and Loyola New Orleans. Tulane earned a split decision last week as it defeated Loyola New Orleans 250-40, but fell 187-108 to LSU.
Â
"I'm impressed with how the girls have learned new information that I am giving them," head coach Leah Stancil said. "Change is always difficult, so I'm really impressed with the upperclassmen on how they have been able to embrace the change."
Â
Junior Olivia Johnson continued her strong start to the 2018-19 season as she captured a pair of races, winning the 500 (4:56.02) and 1,000 yard (10:04.30) freestyle events.
Â
Johnson's winning times in the 500 and 1,000 yard freestyle were both season-best times. Her time in the 1,000 yard freestyle was nearly 30 seconds faster from her time she posted the week before at Dual-A-Pool-Ooza in Denver.
Â
As the team shifts its focus to Georgia Southern this week, Stancil will challenge her squad by racing several individuals in different events, as the team continues to prepare for the American Athletic Championships in February.
Â
"Some of the girls will be competing in events that they don't typically compete in, so I can see what other events they are able to do," Stancil said. "I'm excited about how our freshmen are competing and each meet they seem to be getting more and more comfortable, so it's going to be fun to see how they continue to develop. I think we are moving in the right direction."
Â
Complete results will be posted following the completion of the meet.
