2018 UMES Hawk Classic Final Results
MILLSBORO, Del. – Earning its highest finish of the season in the final competition of the calendar year, the No. 10 Tulane Bowling team went 3-0 on the final day of action to finish third overall at the 2018 Hawk Classic hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore.
The Green Wave earned its highest finish in a tournament since placing fourth in the KU Invitational last year, while finishing in the top three for three for the first time since finishing second at the 2017 Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational.
"Our main focus this semester has been to be patient and learn to work together as a team," head coach Hayley Veitch said. "This tournament showed how this mentality has really paid off. It was a very impressive performance to end our semester of growth."
Over the course of the three-day event, the Green Wave knocked down a total of 13,615 pins in the tournament. It was the third-most in the 17-team field, with Sunday's total of 3,768 helped the team finish the event with a pin average of 200.2.
In the opening match Sunday, Tulane out-dueled Lincoln Memorial University 1,011-957, moving on to the next round on the winners' side to defeat the host UMES Hawks 1,246-1,095. In the last match of the day, the Green Wave went the distance and defeated Farleigh Dickenson 1,511-1,403 to claim third and finish the day unbeaten.

The Green Wave and the Hawks opened competition on Friday, with the Tulane taking the first Baker game 969-798. Up next was St. Francis of Brooklyn, with the Green Wave again coming out on top 1,043-785.
After dropping their only match of the day to LIU Brooklyn 1,010-954, the Green Wave closed out strongly with a 1,065-895 win over Coppin State and 981-911 win over North Carolina A&T.
On Saturday, the Green Wave knocked down 4,835 pins to sit in fifth place going into the bracket finals on Sunday, finishing with a two-day total of 9,847 pins for a 196.9 average.
Madison McCall was the highest individual finisher for the Green Wave on Saturday, placing 11th after knocking down 1,045 pins for an average of 209, just two pins away from finishing in the top 10.
While suffering defeats to Monmouth, Vanderbilt and Youngstown State, Tulane was able to post wins against Southland-rival Sam Houston State, as well as Sacred Heart.
"We have been working hard to better prepare for Day 3. Today we raised our level of play, remained competitive and never lost our fighting spirit," Veitch said. "With the help of this tournament's striking hat, a crab, we were able to relax and have fun."
The Green Wave will be back in action January 11-13, traveling to Jonesboro, Arkansas, to take part in the Mid-Winter Invitational hosted by Arkansas State University.
