Track and Field Ready for Season Opener in Birmingham Friday

NEW ORLEANS – The Green Wave will kick off the indoor track and field season on Friday, traveling to Birmingham, Alabama for the BSC Indoor Icebreaker hosted by Birmingham-Southern College.
The meet, held at the same venue as the indoor national championship, will be Tulane track and field athletes' first test to shake of the rust of a long off-season.

Competing against the Green Wave will be many local and regional schools from multiple levels of NCAA and NJCAA competition. Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Troy, UAB, Central Arkansas and Georgia State will be among the Division I competition.
Field events start the day with the weight throw at 9 a.m., which will be followed by the shot put and long jump which will see Tulane's first field athletes competing. The pole vault follows at 10 a.m., the triple jump will take place at 1 p.m. and the high jump ends the day in the field at 2 p.m.
Running begins at 9:30 a.m. with the women's 3K followed by the men's 3K at 10 a.m. The 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles are next from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and then the Green Wave will contest the mile, 400 meter, 800 meter and 200 meter races. Relays close out the evening Friday with the distance medley relay at 5:45 p.m. and the 4x400 relay at 6:15 p.m.
Friday will be, at a minimum, one of three Tulane meets at the Birmingham Crossplex this season. The team will return on January 18-19 for the Samford Invitational and on February 22-23 for the American Athletic Conference championship. Tulane could also take part in the NCAA Championship March 8-9 at the Crossplex.
