Track & Field's Duckett Sets New School Record in 60m Hurdles at Don Kirby Invite

NEW ORLEANS - Junior Jessica Duckett rewrote Tulane track and field's record book Saturday.
Duckett set a new school record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.36 in day two of the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., topping the previous program best of 8.44, which she recorded last year at the LSU Twilight Invitational.
Duckett posted a time of 8.52 in the semi-finals to qualify for the 60m hurdles finals, where she then broke the school record en route to a fourth-place finish. With the time of 8.36, Duckett sits in second place in The American women's 60m hurdles performance list heading into the conference championship.
Sophomore Brandi Hughes got in on the 60m hurdles action, as well, setting a personal record with a time of 8.38. Hughes recorded the time in the semi-finals, initially breaking the school record of 8.44, but Duckett retook the top mark in the finals.
Hughes qualified for the 60m hurdles finals, as well, and delivered a time of 8.42 to finish sixth.
Duckett provided more highlights from Albuquerque as the day went on, also setting a new personal record in the 400m dash with a time of 55.91 and teaming up with Hughes, sophomore Maya Harewood and freshman Kyah Loyd in the 4x400m relay to secure a section-winning time of 3:46.84.
North of New Mexico, junior Emmanuel Rotich competed at the Husky Classic in Seattle, finishing 35th in the 5000m with a time of 14:15.52.
Across the country in Massachusetts, redshirt juniors Emma Newton and Lauren Bartels ran in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University. Newton recorded a time of 9:55.87 in the 3000m while Bartels set a new personal best in the 5000m, running to a 10th place finish in 17:04.43.
