
Women’s Tennis Hosts UTSA, South Alabama This Weekend

NEW ORLEANSÂ - After splitting a pair of matches last weekend in Columbia, Mo., the Tulane women's tennis team returns to the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center for home matches on back-to-back days against UTSA on Friday, February 16, before welcoming South Alabama on Saturday, February 17. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT) for both contests.

LAST TIME OUT
Tulane (4-3) earned a 5-1 neutral site victory over South Dakota State last Sunday after going a perfect 3-for-3 in doubles, before Daniela La Fuente, Elena Muller and Alex Alegre won singles matches. Alegre's win was her first of the spring season after joining the team in January.
SCOUTING UTSA
Led by 11th-year head coach Erin Scott, the Roadrunners (3-2) enter Friday's matchup after dropping two of their last three, including a 4-3 decision at UTRGV last Saturday. Sophomore Laura Cabrera owns an unblemished 5-0 dual singles record this spring with four of those victories coming out of the No. 5 spot in the lineup.Â
SCOUTING SOUTH ALABAMA
The Jaguars (4-0) will play at the University of New Orleans on Friday afternoon, but have no played in 13 days since a 5-2 road win at Mercer on February 3. They also own victories over Grambling State (4-0), Xavier (La.) (7-0), and Jackson State (6-1). South Alabama's players have combined for an 18-3 record in dual singles and an 11-1 mark in doubles matches this spring, as Yu Fujioka leads the team with an 8-2 overall individual ledger and a 3-0 standing in dual match play.Â
ALVARO'S DUAL WIN STREAK
Ivone Alvaro has won 14-straight decisions in dual singles matches dating back to last season. She tied for second on the team in dual wins (18) with Sisti last season, just one behind Muller.
ALEGRE'S FIRST WIN A BIG ONE
Freshman Alex Alegre joined the Green Wave from Spain in January, and earned her first collegiate singles victory from the No. 6 spot in the lineup on February 11 in a 5-1 win over South Dakota State. Not only was it her first triumph, but it marked Tulane's fourth team point in the match to clinch the victory.
BUILDING ON 20
Tulane posted its first 20-win season in the post-Katrina era by going 22-7 in 2016-17. The year was highlighted by the program's first top-30 win in the post-Katrina era with a 4-3 victory over then No. 28 LSU. The Wave also went 4-0 against American opponents, defeating the likes of UConn, UCF, USF and Houston.
VETERAN MAKEUP
Tulane not only returns a strong cast comprising five letterwinners from last year's team, but each of them finished the 2017 spring campaign at the No. 2-6 spots in the singles lineup, including senior Sade Atkinson, juniors Elena Muller and Sofia Kurtz, and sophomores Christina Sisti and Ivone Alvaro.
NEW FACES
The Green Wave welcomes three newcomers, including sophomore Laura Fabrizi who played her debut season at FAU in 2016-17, as well as freshmen Daniela La Fuente and Alex Alegre.
