BERKELEY, Calif. - Tulane track and field wrapped up the Brutus Hamilton Challenge with a bang on Saturday, as the Green Wave's multi-sport athletes teamed up with senior Antonius Prader to punctuate their weekend at Cal's Edwards Stadium with spectacular performances across the board.
QUOTES
"I think it's pretty obvious that our sprinters, hurdlers and Rebekah Markel led the way today. For us to fly out here and beat Cal in multiple events on the men's side - I'm really proud of the way those guys competed. For Devin and Corey to come out of spring football and run as well as they did is fantastic. In my opinion, Devin was the male athlete of the meet. He was the strongest performer today."
"On the men's side, the handful of guys that we do have who can make an impact are in a good spot. On the women's side, I feel the same way. We're healthy and seemingly peaking at the right time."
-Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Eric Peterson
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Green Wave's multi-sport athletes impressed in numerous events on Saturday.
Redshirt sophomore Devin Glenn, also a member of Tulane's football team, took home first in the 100m race, finishing with a time of 10.64 (-3.1 m/s). Glenn also secured a first-place finish in the 200m race with a time of 21.18 (-1.4 m/s/) - the first time he has competed in the event since high school.
Glenn dazzled in the men's 4x100m relay, as well. Teaming up with Prader and fellow football players redshirt sophomore Corey Dauphine and freshman Jaetavian Toles, Glenn helped Tulane finish first in the event with a time of 40.98.
"For those guys to break 41 seconds and win the race shows that we've got a pretty good team here," Peterson said.
Dauphine took second in the 200m race with a time of 21.23 (+1.4 m/s) while Toles finished fourth in the 100m with a time of 11.08 (-3.1 m/s). Prader finished fifth in the 400m hurdles and also spurred the men's 4x400 relay team of himself, junior Pierce Hill, freshman Patrick Dougherty and senior Stephen Medlin to a second-place finish with a time of 3:32.75.
Junior Emmanuel Rotich finished third in the one mile run with a time of 4:08.21, marking the first time he has competed in the event in his career. Sophomore Raymond Kibet finished first in the 400m race with a time of 46.81.
In the field events, sophomore Ryan Singer took second in the discus throw with a distance of 49.19m, which is his personal best in the event by almost two meters.
On the women's side, junior Rebekah Markel finished second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.05m (13-03.50). Freshman Kristina Leggas took third, notching a vault of 3.50m (11-05.75m).
The Green Wave's hurdlers made waves on the track. Junior Jessica Duckett, sophomore Brandi Hughes and freshman Kyah Loyd finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 100m hurdles.
The trio was joined by sophomore Maya Harewood in the 4x100m relay, where they finished second with a time of 46.00 - the Green Wave's best time in the event this season.
