NEW ORLEANS - Tulane track and field will send six athletes to Texas this weekend, where it will compete in the Houston Alumni Invitational, hosted by Houston, on Friday and Saturday.
Friday's lone event - the pole vault - starts at 5:30 p.m. The running events kick off at 11:55 a.m. and wrap up by 3 p.m. on Saturday.
ABOUT THE MEET
Tulane heads into Houston to square off against numerous collegiate programs hailing from Texas. Host Houston, Texas A&M, Rice, Houston Baptist and Lamar highlight the field of competitors.
Junior Rebekah Markel will compete in the pole vault on Friday. Freshman Kyah Loyd and sophomore Maya Harewood will run in the women's 100m and 400m, respectively, while sophomore Raymond Kibet will line up in the men's 400m.
Junior Jessica Duckett will compete in the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles, as will sophomore Brandi Hughes. Loyd will also compete in the 100m hurdles.
The meet will not be scored.
LAST TIME OUT
The Green Wave rolled out west last weekend for the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival and Jim Bush Legends Invitational at UCLA.
Markel made her mark in the pole vault, claiming second place in the field of athletes from UCLA, SDSU and Washington State with a new outdoor lifetime best of 4.10m. The mark topped her previous personal record of 4.05m, as she creeps closer to the program record of 4.30m - set by Alyssa Applebee at last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships.
On the track, Tulane's speed was on full display. Duckett finished first in the 100m hurdles with a time 13.57 (-0.4 m/s) while Hughes secured a third-place finish in the 400m hurdles, circling the track in 1:01.13. Harewood finished second in the 400m dash with a time of 55.15.
Kibet took first in the men's 400m, finishing with a time of 46.82 and ahead of competitors from Minnesota, UCSB and Washington State.
