Duckett Resets 100m Hurdles School Record, Men's 4x100m Relay Team Makes History in Final Day at The American Outdoor Track & Field Championships
May 13, 2018 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field, Track & Field
CINCINNATI - Junior Jessica Duckett reset her own school record in the 100m hurdles, and the 4x100m relay team of redshirt sophomores Devin Glenn and Corey Dauphine, freshman Jaetavian Toles and senior Antonius Prader recorded the top time in the men's program's history, as Tulane track and field closed the final day at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in grand style.
The Green Wave earned nine total medals - four bronze, four silver and one gold - across the three-day competition on both the track and in the field, and the women's team received the conference's Team Academic Excellence Award.
QUOTES
"When you come to a championship meet and you don't come away as the champion, I always have some bittersweet feelings about the ultimate outcome. That said, where our program is right now, our athletes maximized their capabilities. That I'm very proud of. We had a lot of very good individual performances. We're committed to improving and getting better, and we're going to look at this meet critically and see where we need to and can improve. We're not graduating very many people off of either team, and we're bringing in some very talented athletes. I'm not satisfied or pleased with seventh place as a team, but given where we are, that's about where we were capable of, and I'm proud of the fact that we're solidly in that position."
-Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Eric Peterson
HOW IT HAPPENED
One day after breaking her own women's 100m hurdles school record in the prelim, Duckett did it again. The junior from Houston, Texas, finished first in the event's final with a time of 13.02 (+1.7 m/s), topping her time of 13.14 (+.2 m/s) from yesterday, rebreaking The American's event record, resetting Cincinnati's Gettler Stadium's facility record and taking home the gold medal. Duckett's time ranks No. 10 in the NCAA East Region and No. 19 in the nation, putting her in position to receive an invite to the upcoming NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round.
Duckett earned her second medal of the weekend - a silver - in the women's 400m hurdles with a second-place finish. Her time of 57.63 is a new personal best and ranks as the ninth-best time in the east region and No. 18 in the nation, also putting her in position to receive a bid to the regional meet.

More program history was made when Glenn, Dauphine, Toles and Prader teamed up in the men's 4x100m relay to finish third with a time of 40.26, breaking the previous school record of 40.37. Glenn, Dauphine and Toles, who are also members of Tulane's football program, helped Prader, a New Orleans native, finish his collegiate career with a bronze medal.
