Jun 21, 2018 | Cross Country, Track & Field
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane cross country and track senior Lauren Bartels was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-American Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday.

Bartels, who completed her Tulane degree in Chemical Engineering with a 3.99 GPA, has earned Second Team Academic All-American status for the first time in her career.
In March, Bartels was also named the American Athletic Conference cross country Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Bartels is the program's first CoSIDA Academic All-American and second all-time. Will Junius won First-Team Academic All-American honors in 1997 and 1996.

To be nominated for an Academic All-American spot, student-athletes needed to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.30 and participate in at least 50 percent of the team's contests while being an important member of the team athletically. After being nominated, college sports information directors across the country vote on the most deserving athletes.

During the cross country season, Bartels was the fifth-place finisher at The American Championship, racing to a 6K time of 21:54.1. She was also 22 in the NCAA South Central Regional with a 6K time of 20:35.8.

Bartels is the only female member of The American to earn First- or Second-Team Academic All-American status from CoSIDA. Only one other AAC female student-athlete was named a Third-Team Academic All-American (Memphis' Ashley Pryke).
