Bowling Trio Impress at USBC Junior Gold Championships

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane bowling trio of sophomore Madison McCall and incoming freshmen Crystal Signh and Veronica Petrinec turned in impressive performances at the USBC Junior Gold Championships last week in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex.

All three bowlers progressed through the qualifying rounds and into the advancers round of the tournament. McCall and Singh became the first Tulane bowlers to make two cuts and into the final advancers round of 64 in the tournament. Singh is the first Green Wave incoming freshman to reach that round.

McCall turned in four-game averages of 202.00, 190.50, 195.08, and 194.94 in the four qualifying round, totaling 3,119 pins through 16 games to reach the advancers rounds. She made the first cut into the final advancers round with a 196.05 average. In the final advancers round, placed 43rd with a 195.08 average, missing the cut into the 16-bowler match-play bracket.

Singh bowled an impressive 204.50 in the first set of qualifying matches, and combined average scores of 195.63, 189.33 and 191.63 to reach the advancers rounds. In the first round of five advancers games, she posted a 196.7 average, hitting a 267 – the high score among the Green Wave bowlers at the tournament. She turned in an average of 193.19 in the final advancers round.

Petrinec posted average scores of 177.75, 169.00, 174.83 and 183.44 in the four rounds of qualifying matches. She scored better than 200 six times, including three games in the final round of qualifying.

McCall earned honorable mention All-America honors as a freshman at Tulane last year, while Singh and Petrinec will begin classes at Tulane this fall and compete for the Green Wave bowling program.
