Cross Country Season Begins Saturday at Nicholls

NEW ORLEANS – The cross country season begins Saturday for the Green Wave with the team heading to Thibodaux to compete in the Nicholls Cross Country Invitational.
The Tulane women will begin the year with a 4K run at 8 a.m., and they will be followed by the men racing a 6K at 8:30 a.m. Competing against the Green Wave will be the host Colonels of Nicholls as well as UNO and Loyola-New Orleans.
This home race is a long time coming for the Colonels, as it will be the first home cross country meet at Nicholls in a quarter century.
Tulane's men enter the year ranked No. 13 in the South Central Region by the USTFCCCA and have defending regional champion Emmanuel Rotich on the roster. Fellow seniors Joshua Cheruyot and Pierce Hill return as does junior Carlos Zervigon and sophomores Andrew Kipkemboi and Patrick Dougherty. New to the roster this year are Tom Coe, a graduate student from Woking, England, and Evans Kipchumba from Kenya.
On the women's side, Tulane brings back redshirt junior Mckenzie Melius along with juniors Mary Catherine Stovall, Paige Fatland and Jasmine Ereng. Bridgid Selfors, Rachel Maue and Reid Belanger are Tulane's sophomores for 2018, and freshmen Oneke Gwan and Nicole Phaneuf are the two newest runners on the team.
After Saturday, Tulane will have its next meet on September 15 in Baton Rouge at the LSU Invitational.
