Nov 13, 2019 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's basketball team signed McKenzi Carter and JerKaila Jordan for the class of 2024.
"McKenzi's [Carter] versatility sets her apart," Green Wave head coach Lisa Stockton said. "She is a good defender with size and athleticism. McKenzi has been a standout high school player and I anticipate her growth to continue at the next level."
Carter is 6-1 guard out of Fort Worth Country Day School in Fort Worth, Texas. She led Country Day to the Texas State Championship Tournament in the first three seasons of her high school career under head coach Shelly Rains. Carter was named All-State in Texas in three consecutive seasons, while earning MVP and All-District honors in 2018 and 2019. She reached 1,000-point mark in her sophomore season.
Jordan has led John Curtis High School to three-straight Louisiana Division I State Championships, winning the MVP in each championship game. The 5-9 guard averaged 17 points, 4.2 rebounds, three assists and two steals per game her junior season. She is currently the top ranked recruit in the state of Louisiana and the 45th recruit nationally. Jordan has been named to the 2020 Jersey Mike's Naismith High School Girls Trophy Preseason Watch List. She earned The New Orleans Advocate's All-Metro Most Outstanding Player award in 2019. Jordan played in the elite Under Armour club last summer.
"JerKaila [Jordan] is one of the most decorated and highly ranked players we have signed at Tulane," Stockton said. "She is an elite combo guard who has great speed and ability to score."
While Carter and Jordan will be joining Tulane in 2020-21, the 2019-20 season has gotten underway. Tulane will look to stay undefeated when it takes on Middle Tennessee State at Fogelman in Devlin on Thursday at 7 p.m.
