
Tulane Swimming and Diving Opens Competition at AAC Championships on Wednesday

INDIANAPOLIS – The Tulane University women's swimming and diving team will take aim at its first American Athletic Conference Championships title beginning Wednesday at the Indiana University Natatorium.Â
Â
Competition on Wednesday will begin at 10 a.m. (CT) with preliminary diving competition followed by the swimming relays at 4 p.m. (CT).Â

Tulane enters the championship after it posted a 154-146 victory over SMU on Feb. 8 in Dallas. In total, Tulane swimmers captured nine racing events against SMU, including the 200-yard medley (1:43.59) and 400-yard freestyle (3:27.61) relays.

The Green Wave will look to improve on last year's fifth-place league championships finish.Â
Â
Tulane also will look to improve on its medal count from a year ago. In 2018, the team grabbed six medals during the championship meet, its highest medal count since 2016.Â
Â
Junior Olivia Johnson and sophomore Kate McDonald lead the way for the Green Wave, as both have earned B-Cut marks in the 400 IM and 200 breast, respectively.Â

Johnson, who will compete in her home state of Indiana, swam the fastest 400 IM in The American in 4:12.17 to win the Phill Hansel Invitational. McDonald also had success at the Phill Hansel Invitational as she clocked a time of 2:13.27 for one of five 200 breast B-Cut marks in the conference.
