NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team will stay on the road this weekend, heading to Cary, North Carolina, to compete in the 2019 Army Invitational at the USA Baseball National Training Complex beginning Friday.
Â
The Green Wave will take on the Dartmouth Big Green Friday afternoon, Saint Joseph's Hawks on Saturday and close the event with the Army Black Knights on Sunday. All three games of the tournament will air on radio this weekend, with Friday and Sunday on WRBH 88.3 FM, with Saturday's game on Sports 1280 AM locally in New Orleans with David Kahn providing play-by-play.
Â
Tulane heads into the competition off the back of a win over the Nicholls Colonels Tuesday night to improve to 7-2 on the season. The Green Wave defeated Nicholls 7-4 thanks to some big hits early and solid pitching late to hold off the Colonel comeback attempt.
Â
The squad finished with eight hits in the game and have outhit their opponents in each of the last eight contests coming into the weekend, with a .332 batting average as a group. Powering that charge is Trevor Jensen, who currently leads the team with a .462 batting average after he went 3-for-5 in the leadoff spot Tuesday with two doubles and three runs scored.
Â
Sophomore David Bedgood hit his third home run in as many games, as his three-run blast in the top of the first set the tone for the Green Wave early. Kobi Owen also went yard in the contest, as he, Bedgood and junior Kody Hoese are tied for the team lead with four home runs each and account for 12 of the team's 15 on the season.
Â
On the mound, Tulane got another solid start from Josh Bates who pitched five shutout innings to improve to 2-0 on the season, while the relief pitchers in Brendan Cellucci, Ryan Green and Connor Pellerin pitched the final three shutout innings to secure the win.
Â
Tulane will use their regular rotation of Kaleb Roper, Keagan Gillies and Chase Solesky this weekend, getting solid outings from the three last weekend against Ole Miss.
Â
The most recent series against any of the three teams the Green Wave will face in North Carolina is against the Black Knights, as Sunday's contest will only be the third meeting all-time. Tulane swept a series against SJU in 2003, while Friday's meeting against Dartmouth is only the second meeting all-time between the two sides.

"We're heading to a great facility in North Carolina to take on three very good teams. I think the players will like it, and we'll get an opportunity to train well while we're out there. Two of the games are on the main field, so it'll be another good opportunity for us to continue to get better."
