Women’s Tennis Suffers 4-3 Setback to Middle Tennessee

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's tennis team dropped a tight home match, 4-3, against Middle Tennessee on Sunday afternoon at the City Park Tennis Center.
The Green Wave (5-11) found themselves in an intense battle for the doubles point, as the 62nd-ranked duo of Elena Muller and Ivone Alvaro grabbed an early edge with a 6-4 win on court one.
The Blue Raiders (6-9) got on the scoreboard with a 7-5 victory on court two, before holding on for a 7-6(4) triumph in the deciding match on court three to take a 1-0 lead in the overall match.
Middle Tennessee pushed Tulane to the brink, 3-0, with a pair of straight-set singles wins at No. 1 and No. 5, before Daniela La Fuente scored a comeback victory at No. 2, 1-6, 6-0, 7-5, over Lidia Burrows to get the Wave on the board.
Alvaro followed up with a 7-6, 6-3 triumph over Zani Barnard at No. 3, but the Blue Raiders clinched with a straight-set win at No. 6.
The Green Wave got one more win before competition concluded, as Laura Fabrizi earned a come-from-behind win of her own at No. 4 with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Kim Kermet.
Tulane remains home to host Harvard on Thursday, March 21 at 2:30 p.m., before welcoming Marshall on Saturday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be held at the City Park Tennis Center.
