Women's Tennis Falls to Harvard, 4-1
Mar 21, 2019 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's tennis team grabbed an early lead by securing the doubles point, but was unable to hang on in a 4-1 home defeat against Harvard on Thursday afternoon at the City Park Tennis Center.
Â
The Green Wave (5-12) got an early lift with some gritty doubles play, as Laura Fabrizi and Daniela La Fuente cruised to a 6-2 win over Jenna Friedel and Rachel Lim at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Tulane preserved the first team point when the 33rd-ranked duo of Ivone Alvaro and Elena Muller closed out a 7-5 win at the No. 1 position to give the Wave a 1-0 lead.
Â
Muller and Alvaro improve to 15-2 overall for the season and 13-1 when playing atop the doubles lineup this spring.
Â
The Crimson (10-5) halted almost all of the Wave's momentum from that point in singles however, claiming the first set on five of the six courts.
Â
Havard went on to win in straight sets at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 to clinch the match and hold off any attempt for a Tulane rally.
Â
Tulane remains home to host Marshall on Saturday, March 23. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
