Women's Tennis Rolls Past Marshall, 5-2
Mar 23, 2019 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's tennis team notched a home victory by defeating Marshall, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at the City Park Tennis Center.
Â
The Green Wave (6-12) continued their dominance on the doubles courts, as the 33rd-ranked duo of Ivone Alvaro and Elena Muller cruised to a 6-1 victory over Liz Stefancic and Madi Ballow on court one.
Â
The win was the fourth in a row for Alvaro and Muller, who improved their record to 16-2 overall and 14-1 at the top spot in the lineup this spring.
Â
Christina Sisti and Adelaide Lavery were handling their business in the meantime and finished off a 6-1 win of their own on court three over Matilde Mulatero and Victoria Walter to give the Wave a 1-0 lead over the Thundering Herd heading into singles.
Â
Alvaro pushed Tulane's lead to two with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot in the lineup, but Marshall responded with consecutive, straight-set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 to draw even, 2-2.
Â
The Green Wave were resilient despite the rally by the Thundering Herd, as they rattled off three more singles wins to clinch their sixth win of the season.
Â
Daniela La Fuente won in straight sets in the No. 2 position, before Lavery closed out her contest on court six in the same fashion. Muller bounced back from a lost first set to win the second frame, 6-4, and came out on top, 10-7, in a third-set tiebreaker to seal a victory of her own.
Â
Tulane returns to the courts in seven days to host Southern Miss on Saturday, March 30. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
