NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team returns to action on Wednesday night, hosting the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns at 6:30 p.m. at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Â
The contest will be streamed live through Tulane All-Access at TulaneGreenWave.com, with radio coverage of the game on WRBH 88.3 FM locally in the New Orleans area. Todd Graffagnini will have the call with the pregame show beginning at 6:15 p.m.
Â
Tulane students looking for a break can get free donuts while supplies last at the game Wednesday, as the team also welcomes New Orleans Baby Cakes season ticket holders with free tickets and popcorn to the game. All season ticket holders will need to reserve their tickets with the Baby Cakes office for Wednesday.
Â
The Green Wave come into the contest with a 13-7 overall record after earning a weekend series victory over the UC Riverside Highlanders, splitting a Saturday doubleheader and pitching a shutout on Sunday to finish the week with three wins in their four games.
Â
Tulane outscored both McNeese and UC Riverside 30-14 in the four games last week, producing 42 hits as a team with 20 of those hits being for extra bases. As a team, Tulane's .312 batting average leads the American and is in the top 20 nationally, while sitting in the top 10 in the country in hits with 221.
Â
Frankie Niemann led the team at the plate with nine hits and a .600 clip last week, as he currently leads the team with a .471 batting average after appearing in 12 games and making 10 starts. Kody Hoese continues to pace the team with his 33 hits, nine home runs and .783 slugging percentage, where as a group Tulane has eight players batting .300 or better on the squad this season.
Â
Tulane pitching held UC Riverside to a single run in two of their wins, as opponents hit just .241 against the team last week. The Green Wave struck out 35 batters and issued just 13 walks to their opponents, getting out of jams with six double plays turned defensively.
Â
Krishna Raj is scheduled to get his second career start on Wednesday, as last week against the Cowboys he went 3.1 innings against McNeese allowing two runs on four hits and striking out three in 3.1 innings pitched.
Â
The Ragin Cajuns will come into Wednesday's game during a busy stretch of action, hosting Northwestern State Tuesday night before traveling to New Orleans to take on the Green Wave Wednesday. Louisiana-Lafayette opened Sun Belt play on the road last weekend with a series win at Little Rock to sit at 9-11 on the season ahead of taking on the Demons.
Â
Tulane will be looking to snap a three-game losing skid against Louisiana-Lafayette dating back to the 2017 season, dropping both games last year as the Ragin Cajuns own a one-game advantage in the series history between the two teams 46-45.
