
Track & Field Travels to Houston for Victor Lopez Classic

NEW ORLEANS – The Green Wave track & field teams are right back to work this weekend, taking part in the Victor Lopez Classic hosted by Rice in Houston.
Tulane will get to compete against many teams from Texas including conference foe Houston. Also in the meet will be Rice, Lamar, Stephen F. Austin, McNeese State, Houston Baptist, Sam Houston State, Western Michigan, Nicholls and athletes from Notre Dame, Harvard and Louisville.

The Victor Lopez Classic is a three-day meet with high school events being held Thursday-Saturday and college events taking place on Friday-Saturday. Tulane's first involvement will be the men's and women's 1500 at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Later than night, the 3K steeplechase, 5K and 10K will all be run.
On Saturday, things will restart with the long jump at 11 a.m. followed by the javelin, pole vault, high jump and triple jump throughout the afternoon. The track races begin at noon with the 110 and 100 hurdles and will be followed by the 400, 100, 800, 400 hurdles, 200 and 4x100 relay. Finals of those earlier events will be held throughout the day, and action will conclude with the 1500 and 4x400 relays on Saturday night.
Last time out, Tulane posted four event victories and 18 top-five finishes at the Louisiana Classics. Kyah Loyd won the 100 hurdles, Bridgid Selfors got a victory in the 5K, Tom Coe won the 1500 and Rebekah Markel was the winner in the pole vault.
The Green Wave will split up for two different meets next week, with the majority of the team taking on the Texas Relays in Austin on Friday and Saturday. Select distance runners will head to Stanford, California, to run in the Stanford Invitational.
