Mar 29, 2019 | Sailing
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane sailing team is headed to the West Coast this weekend, traveling to San Francisco to compete in the St. Francis Interconference Regatta at Stanford on Saturday and Sunday.
The Green Wave are set to sail against 17 teams on the water this weekend – Cal Poly, Cal Maritime, Channel Islands, CSU Long Beach, Santa Clara, Stanford, Berkley, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, Hawaii, Southern Cal, Washington and Western Washington.
Tulane will send one team to compete in each of the respective A and B Division races, totaling 36 races in the two-day regatta, weather depending. Four schools – Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz and Hawaii – will have two teams participating in each division to total 21 opponents.
The Olive and Blue have not been up against any of these schools in the team's inaugural varsity season, with the exception of Stanford earlier this fall in the Sugar Bowl Regatta and Nelson Roltsch Team Race.
Fifteen of Tulane's 17 weekend opponents are members of the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference (PCCSC), while Washington and Western Washington are members of the Northwest Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NWICSA).
