Men's Tennis Falls at No. 9 Columbia
Mar 3, 2019 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane men's tennis team struggled to establish early momentum and suffered a 7-0 defeat at ninth-ranked Columbia on Sunday afternoon at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
The Lions (8-1) are the eighth top-20 opponent the Green Wave (4-8) have faced in their last 10 matches.
Columbia tallied convincing wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to take an early 1-0 lead, despite trailing 5-4 at No. 2, where Hamish Stewart and Luis Erlenbusch kept things tight.
Tulane was unable to turn the tide at the start of singles, as the Lions claimed the first set on five courts, despite Akos Kotorman holding on for a 7-6(4), victory in the first frame on court six. Columbia would go on to win in straight sets on each of the first five courts, before earning a comeback win at No. 6 to complete the shutout.
Tulane continues its road swing with a trip to Florida to face a pair of American Athletic Conference opponents, beginning with UCF on Wednesday, March 6 at 5 p.m. (CT), in Orlando. The Green Wave will continue on to Tampa for a rematch of last year's conference championship match against USF on Friday at 12:30 p.m. (CT)
