Mar 5, 2019 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane men's tennis team heads to Florida to face a pair of familiar American Athletic Conference foes, beginning with a trip to UCF on Wednesday, March 6, followed by a matchup at USF two days later.
The Green Wave (4-8) will face UCF at 5 p.m. (CT) at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla., before continuing on to Tampa to face USF on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
SCOUTING UCF
After starting the spring with four consecutive losses, the Knights (6-5) enter Wednesday's match with wins in five straight and six of their last seven contests, including their most recent victory coming in a 4-0 victory over 29th-ranked Miami on Sunday afternoon. Gabriel Decamps leads the team with a 4-2 record at No. 1 singles, as the doubles team comprising Trey Hilderbrand and Bogdan Pavel own a 6-2 mark at the top spot in the lineup.
Tulane defeated UCF, 4-2, in the semifinals of last year's American Athletic Conference Championship.
SCOUTING USF
The Bulls (6-4) have won four in a row and own a 5-0 record at home this season entering Friday's battle, as they share one common opponent with the Green Wave in Mississippi State. USF is led by Alberto Barroso-Campos, who owns a No. XX national ranking and a 9-1 record at the No. 1 spot in singles in 2019. Freshman Chase Ferguson has also been solid for the Bulls, posting a 5-2 mark at the No. 2 singles position.
Tulane and USF last went head-to-head in the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championship final, as the Green Wave held on for a 4-3 win in Dallas to end the Bulls' four-year reign atop the league.
