SAN FRANCISCO – The Tulane sailing team stands in an impressive fourth-place ranking among 22 teams in the St. Francis Interconference Regatta after one day of action, totaling 81 points after 12 races on the water.
"Today was a really good day for the team," head coach Charles Higgins said. "We prepared specifically for this venue over the past week and the preparations really showed."
The Green Wave's A Division boat totaled 46 points on the water while the team's B Division boat tallied 35 in Saturday's competition.Â
Freshman Ciara Rodriguez-Horan teamed up with seniors Grace Bloomfield and Sophie Ricker in the A Division boat, earning two first-place finishes after six races to total four top-five scores.
Earning two top-five finishes and ending all of the races in the top-ten position, sophomores Caelan Watts and Kate Lenhard sailed in the B Division races, checking in at third place in the duo's best race of the day.
"We still have to work on being disciplined in the tough races but to post top-ten finishes in ten out of the 12 races is a solid result," Higgins added. "We're eager to get back after it tomorrow and post some great results."
The team is set to head back on the water on Sunday to finish out the remaining races in the regatta. Fans are able to stay updated with the Green Wave by tracking the team's live scores here.
