Sailing Earns Impressive Fourth-Place Finish in St. Francis Regatta

SAN FRANCISCO – The Tulane sailing team remained in fourth place among 22 opponents after closing out the St. Francis Interconference Regatta, recording five top-ten finishes on Sunday to total 15 in the weekend.
"It was another solid day for the Green Wave," head coach Charles Higgins said. "We had a tough first race but we quickly put it behind us to bounce back with a steady string of top-ten finishes. This was a great weekend and I'm certain the lessons learned will pay big dividends as we approach the championship segment of this season and beyond."
Freshman Ciara Rodriguez-Horan continued to sail the skipper position on day two of the competition, partnering with seniors Grace Bloomfield and Sophie Ricker in the crew roles. The A Division team tallied two top-five finishes in its final three races on the water, earning third and second place standings to total 65 points after nine races.
Sophomores skipper Caelan Watts and crew Kate Lenhard kept up with their impressive performance from the B Division boat on Sunday, earning three-top ten finishes in their last few races of the weekend. The two seventh place finishes, along with the final fourth place finish, earned the duo 53 points after nine races.
Tulane finished the two-day regatta with 118 total points after sailing in 18 total races, defeating 18 competitive opponents for a successful West Coast trip.
The Green Wave are back in action on April 13 and 14 after a weekend off, heading to Annapolis, Maryland for a regatta hosted by Navy.
