Markel's Indoor Season Concludes at National Championship
Mar 9, 2019 | Track & Field
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tulane senior pole vaulter Rebekah Markel saw her indoor season come to an end as she failed to clear a height in the NCAA Indoor Championship at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Saturday afternoon.
Markel, who set the school record in the event this season with a clearance of 4.33 meters (14-2.5), was unable to get over the bar Saturday with the opening height set at 4.16 meters.
Markel's senior indoor season saw her break her previous personal best of 4.15 meters three separate times and win the American Athletic Conference crown as the only athlete to clear 4.09 meters at the conference meet. Markel is the school record holder in the event now, shattering the previous record with a clearance of 4.32 meters at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational back in February.
The outdoor season has already begun with a meet in Hammond last week, but Markel and the rest of the Green Wave will have their next outdoor meet at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette next weekend.
