Beach Volleyball's McHugh and Torruella Earn All-Conference Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane beach volleyball's juniors Kaylie McHugh and Eva Torruella earned a spot on the CCSA All-Conference Team, the league announced Thursday afternoon.
"It's a great honor for Kaylie and Eva to be recognized as one of the very elite pairs in our conference and I am deeply proud of them and of their accomplishments," head coach Wayne Holly said. "It's a tough thing to always take on the opponent's best pair. Kaylie and Eva don't just do it, they thrive on the opportunity to compete against the best. That mentality alone contributes more to their success than anything our coaching staff could teach them. It's been a privilege to be courtside this season and see them grow, compete and lead."
The Green Wave's No.1 pair earned a 19-8 record in the regular season, going 10-6 in conference action. The duo defeated five ranked opponents in 2019, in No. 19 Grand Canyon, No. 16 Georgia State, No. 15 Florida Atlantic, No. 20 TCU and No. 11 South Carolina.
McHugh and Torruella swept their opponent on 16 occasions, while also earning two come-from-behind wins on court one. Currently ranking 20th among NCAA pairs, the two recorded a ten-match winning streak this season from February 26 to March 9.
The juniors defeated three top-30 pairs on the sand, including the current 10th ranked pair on two occasions.
The accolade marks McHugh's second consecutive and Torruella's first.
Tulane is headed to Emerson, Georgia this weekend to compete in the CCSA Conference Championship from Friday to Sunday.
