Rotich, Melius Compete in Distance Races in California

AZUSA, Calif. – Out west in the Golden State, Emmanuel Rotich and Mckenzie Melius ran distance races at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday night.
Rotich participated in the 5K, running a 5K outdoors for the first time since the 2017 NCAA Outdoor National Championships. Thursday night, Rotich completed the race in 14:15.28, placing 18th in his heat and 10th among Division I college runners. Rotich's time was 11 seconds behind his 5K outdoor personal best, a mark he achieved at the Penn Relays in April 2017.
Earlier in the night, Melius ran the 3K steeplechase, taking 21st place overall in the field of 100 athletes. She finished with a time of 10:35.46, just two tenths of a second shy of her season best.
The rest of the Green Wave track & field team will compete on Saturday at a highly challenging meet in Baton Rouge. The LSU Alumni Gold meet features athletes from some of the top schools in the country along with professional athletes. The meet begins at 8:45 a.m.
